Last night had been a less than favorable meeting for Steena and Gavin with those of the Xavier Estate. Steena had preoccupied herself for most of the day experiencing a bit of the life that Max knew it before she'd seen him that night in the sealed lab. At one point she brought herself to seeking out Layla, to have another talk. She thanks Layla for finding Max and taking care of him when she couldn't be there. Then...the conversation quickly moves to that of Nathaniel Essex and his part in her life, in both her's and Max's lives. Layla didn't seem to be concerned with that man, the main focus for the moment would be Apocalypse. Though it doesn't help when Ruby appears moments later to the conversation to confirm that Essex was likely doing it for that individual in the first place. Though from her own home Essex was more commonly known as Sinister. While the thought of maybe obtaining his help against Apocalypse may have come to conversation, Ruby shot that down pretty quick-- the man has always been a loyal follower and likely not dead as it appeared from Steena's recounting of events. He'd probably been grooming Deven to become as he was now and making Molly into the Horseman of Death. That didn't sound good, but it didn't deter Layla from asking if Ruby had found anything that might help them. There was something that might give them an edge is the only answer for the moment Ruby would confirm in front of current company. With not much more to say on the matter, Steena left the two and silently expressed her issues to Gavin about these people Max had trusted. As she departed, Ruby slipped an inhibitor to protect against telepaths on Layla's comm before taking her to the subbasement to go over some of the other equipment she'd found to be of use in this upcoming fight.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Val was fussing over the oven waiting for brownies to be finished. It was taking longer than she'd wanted, Kevin could only laugh in amusement as he came in from outside to find his wife watching it as if that would speed up time. He hadn't meant to startle her, but Val appeared to be on the defense since the events of last night. Expressing her concern with the new 'guests' to the estate and what she picked up about them. While he agreed with her concerns, the fact that they could turn on them was a risk they'd have to accept if they'd want to have more of a chance to help Max. Ruby had stated flat out that they didn't currently have the training or power needed to really take on the one known as Apocalypse, but that wasn't going to keep them from trying anyway. There wasn't much left to say on the matter, and currently they were waiting on Layla to give them the 'go' signal and info on what they could do in this upcoming encounter. Taking advantage of what little time they may have when considering they'd be going into a fight they might not walk away from...the two curled up for the night to have a calm moment before the coming storm.
