Max kept close to Ruby's side to watch over her, barely leaving her alone longer than it might take to have a brief shower. At some point that strange frost-like cocoon faded and Ruby stirred. He confirmed that Mal wasn't around and that Layla was gone too, taken by Angela aboard the Ragnarok. Max inquired on how he and the others could help while Ruby assessed her physical damage. She flat out told him they couldn't help, Angela is a goddess and the crew were killers of one kind or another...and another reason she needed to get there to help Layla. That answer didn't sit well with Max, and he threatened to follow after if she just left without them instead of working with them to plan.

Ruby pointed out that a couple of trainees weren't ready to even deal with the minor level of danger, let alone the premium inter-dimensional kind he was implying they'd face. Plus to drag Kevin and Val into the fray would leave their newborn child, Dylan, an orphan. It was not a fight the rest could join in, this time. It still didn't sit well with Max, but instead of arguing he commented about doing the best to keep the place running in her absence. That didn't mean he wouldn't try following or doing whatever else he had his mind set to do, even with Ruby threatening to break his legs and feel less inclined to follow after her.

Without continuing the circular argument, Max wished her luck and a safe return for her and Layla. Even now, during the conversation with him, Ruby was mentally disconnecting herself from everything and nearly everyone, keeping herself detached. There was no space for emotions when dealing with those on the Ragnarok. Only the mission. However, there was still a concern about what to do with the damage still on that solid black eye from where she'd been shot. It wasn't something she was exactly knew how to handle, but an idea was forming as she summoned Alys to the Danger Room.
