Kevin had spent most of his time tending to Val, until she'd had enough and shooed him off to go do something else while cared for Dylan. He still had quite a bit of nervous energy as the realization of being a new father sunk in his mind. He'd eventually take to walking some of the old familiar paths of the estate to work off some of that energy to give Val a break. It's not that she didn't appreciate it, but she knew it wouldn't do him any good to not get out and move around for a bit.
He'd eventually exhausted most of that nervous energy with his walk and found himself resting outside the estate porch to watch the sun go down, sorting out his own thoughts. Wondering how his own father had been when he was born and the jumble of feelings that came with being a dad...having a young life to care for with every step they make. The trace of a voice to his mind from an old familiar voice caught his attention as Veronica appeared and joined him on the porch. The mental touch had always been a bit unsettling, but even more so after past events surrounding the Pyramid over the Mediterranean Sea...and his own role during that time until its collapse into dark ocean waters.
Veronica was quick to add how displeased she was with Val and his disappearing act-- faking their own deaths. She'd mourned their loss after all her own efforts to try and find them had turned up nothing, refusing to believe they were both gone. Kevin didn't apologize for his actions, it didn't mean he was sorry about his decision-- just that it would take action more than words to make amends. Even with a smile accompanying that 'warn someone next time' statement, he couldn't shake the weight of the guilt he felt. Veronica was willing to forgive them because they both came back...and that was what mattered to her.
It started to sink in what he'd done, what was nagging at him so much. He'd abandoned this home, his home...his family. Those that'd accepted him when he'd thought he was content to wander the world to avoid bringing trouble to those around him...and eventually losing something dear to him once he realized that. His thoughts consumed him for a moment before he finally stated to Veronica that there wouldn't be a 'next time' for this.
