There wasn’t downtime since Steen and Gavin arrived to the Xavier Estate before they were all called into the War Room. Gathering for what would hopefully be a briefing on what they could to in retrieving Max and Molly from the Tomorrow Center and stopping Apocalypse from doing more harm to others. Unfortunately it didn’t take long to realize after Ruby started speaking that there wasn’t much of a plan, just more of a go in and if they surrender peacefully, great. If not, then they do things the hard way and capture them to bring back to the estate and see how to undo what Apocalypse had done. With not much else to cover regarding a plan, the group headed to the jet flying out to the Tomorrow Center. It was quite as they entered the lobby, at least until met downstairs by Quinn as the pair of elevator doors opened before them. She pled for them not to do this, knowing good and well why they came— Layla handled the response more tactfully than Steena, who’d decided to grab the other woman with her power and suspend her in the air. The act didn’t sit well with Layla or Ruby as they both demand Quinn to be released. Once free, she stepped aside and stated to keep in mind she tried to warn them. Layla told her to evacuate the Center as they all make their way to head upstairs and towards the sealed lab. Once there, Ruby assess that it might be best for her and Kevin to slip inside and do recon while the rest remain outside until they return. There was unease at splitting the group, but after the exchange of a few heartfelt words— Kevin took hold of Ruby’s hand and used his power to draw them through into the lab beyond….where apparently they were expected. Max was in there, standing silently by a man he didn’t recognize but could only figure to be Apocalypse. That individual greeted Kevin by a different name…Specter…and while he didn’t try to make use of that name much, it wasn’t something most would know him by in a first meeting. There was an odd quality to the man, one he tried to ignore while stating to Max that it was time to go home. As parts of the ceiling tiles started to fall and window glass began to crack and shatter around them as the lights flickered— that man spoke reassuringly that it’d be alright. The attention of that man’s gaze was a bit unsettling but there was some kind of calm assurance at safety he’d only hope to have in his life. He didn’t quite pay attention to what was going on with Ruby at that point, though the other woman had started the charge and ended up clashing with Max in the start of their fight.
Meanwhile, outside of the sealed lab a familiar face manifested down the hall where no one had been prior. It was Molly…but…not exactly the sister Layla knew anymore. This new Molly charged them, making short work of Gavin and Veronica to put them out of the fight as she moved so fast…then grabbing hold of Layla and disappearing from the others. Steena took assessment of the injuries, they’d live, but they had lost Layla and she wasn’t able to find her thoughts let alone the rest of the groups. Frustrated she stated as much when turning to Val and eventually Veronica, another telepath which was rare to meet from what she’d known…but maybe their combined power could do something. They had to find Layla…
Layla found herself bought out of time in a sense by Molly, who continued the attack on her— taking out parts of the building around her. She took a heavy hit that made it difficult to move but at one point she noticed what was going on…the building around her and the others was being brought down around them with these attacks. She called out on the comms to warn everyone that the building was going to come down and to get out, fast. Even without having one, Gavin’s ears picked up on the message from one of the other’s comms as Steena and Veronica were coming to the same conclusion relayed by that message from Layla. Picking up Val and Veronica, Gavin drags them quickly out with Steena…joined shortly by Layla outside— tonight did not go in their favor as they were forced to make their way back to the jet and to safety. The building came down around the area, causing massive destruction, revealing a metallic floating pyramid in the void of what once was the Tomorrow Center and now only a crater remains. They had not achieved their goal…and they’d had to pull back without time to retrieve Kevin or Ruby from the sealed lab.
