Val had retreated into her own form of scantuary and meditation upon the return from what once was the Tomorrow Center to the Xavier Estate. They had left behind Kevin, her husband. Once she'd managed to ground herself, Val went to Steena to test herself against the other woman's own powers. Steena seemed agreable enough to oblige the request. Val held out pretty well in the sparing match before taking a break to get food in her system. It left Steena to wander off and settle in the library for a time. Unable to currently do anything to keep from thinking or worrying about Max and bringing her to tears about the unknown future of things to come. The mask of calm fracturing as she worries about the fate of her child, Max.
After a bit, Val was in the estate's kitchen setting out pizzas for everyone. Regardless of the mood since retreating from the crumbling Tomorrow Center-- everyone still needed to eat and keep their strength up until they knew what could be done. Gavin had kept to himself mostly since their return, but couldn't ignore the scent of food when his body needed some form of nourishment since he'd mended from recent injuries...even if it wasn't something like steak. He kept polite and mostly to himself while eating, but he couldn't help but say something to Val-- it was obvious enough to him she was connected to the guy that got left behind in that metal pyramid. That opened the door at least for some conversation, such as why was he even here. Val asked bluntly and after giving it a bit of thought, Gavin figured for himself it was gratitude and that he felt he owed Steena. She'd done a bit of work with him in the past to give him back some part of humanity instead of the monster he'd become since the 'experiment' days. Val thought it of importance to state that Steena was also loyal to him as well. Of course the line of questioning was getting a bit too the point of trying to figure him out on a more personal level he didn't care for, so it was good when she left after finishing dinner. Val might have been curious as to what made the pair that Gavin and Steena were tick, but left it alone for now. At the core of his thoughts, if things were even between him and Steena after this situation gets resolved, that suited him just fine.
Meanwhile, within the pyramid, Ruby was challenging Apocalypse's Horseman choice for War for a shot at the position. Rattling off how Max was still full of doubt and weak, then adding how much better she'd make if she won. The man that once was Deven Alvah was annoyed and let the force that'd held Ruby in place drop so that Max could deal with the matter. It didn't take long for before Max lept to action-- Ruby hadn't even touched the floor when he attacked. The fight was quickly taken outside of the pyramid as Ruby recovers from a flurry of teleporting around with Max...and launches herself straight at Kevin. This fight wasn't his and he'd phased to let them continue on their own. Outside the fight esclates until something breaks, but not in the way it was expected-- Max attempting to poke at an assumed weakness, in reality just released Ruby from her stone prison.
