Life for Steena and Gavin resumed about as normal as could be expected after Max's abrupt departure. They'd done the best they could to look for Max, but still turned up empty handed. Without a way to keep the young man from teleporting about-- if he wanted to be found, he'd be found, but not before he was ready to make it known. Steena had been preoccupied with her work at Winters Enterprises...overall a productive day. Though she had a topic of interest to discuss with Gavin that evening. He picked up on that mental nudge and met her in the kitchen for whatever reason she'd decided to call him. The topic happened to be about a job opening, the security administrator just quit today and she felt he'd be a good fit for the position. The opening seemed a bit too convenient to give him the option of staying. In truth, Steena had known he'd been considering on leaving but in her way was offering an alternative option that was easy to jump into almost immediately. After recent events...and what happened to Deven-- she wasn't looking at losing another partner in crime. Gavin wasn't entirely keen on the idea of the 'executive' type position but he didn't have another plan in mind just yet and she thought he'd be able to handle it well enough. The other alternative to that job itself was to be hired on as Steena's personal bodyguard. He snorts at that idea. Gavin knew well that she could deal with a lot herself and him as an appointed bodyguard would only be for show. In the end he stated he'd take the job on for a trial period, no promises on the long term but it was a reasonable compromise. The arrangement between them allowed them to remain companions, seeking comfort from each other but at the same time unbound to the other. This new work would allow her a means to vent to him about what was going on with the business side of her life a bit more readily than the current situation. Gavin was letting a bit of that settle in mind as she pauses to respond to a text interrupting the current conversation, Max had left a message to state he was back with the X-Men. A place she'd rather him be for his own good. At least that took the situation of an ex-Horseman off the list of concerns. Tomorrow, it seems for Gavin, he'd be starting a new job. With that Steena turns to check on some work she'd set up in the small lab around the place, leaving Gavin to his own devices. For the moment, that being grabbing dinner and interacting briefly with other people before returning for the evening.
Elsewhere in the city, Max had spent the past week off the radar to avoid from being tracked or spotted by anyone-- including his mother. It was perhaps a bit more difficult to keep one with the ability to teleport out of a place they were curious about being in...especially a place they used to live in prior. Eventually he'd made his way back to the mansion, looking for anyone. It seemed that all was quiet save Mal, still unconscious in the med bay, and Ruby watching at a distance him and the world outside in a half finished console room. Ruby would notice Max's presence, if not before, but at least by the time he'd flickered onto the monitor keeping tabs on Mal. Max not exactly thrilled about the conversation he knew he needed to have, and Ruby looking a bit more exhausted since perhaps the last he'd seen her. Max originally wanted to just let someone know he was back, but seeing he had her full attention he couldn't hold back on the questions since the resolution of recent events. He wanted to know about those gaps in his memory. He could remember going after Ruby fiercely...but there were blank periods where he didn't realize what happened but found himself in the end helping Ruby against Apocalypse. Ruby didn't have an answer and wasn't inclined to ask questions to get answers she may not want...and in the end it'd all worked out for them. Not that her response set him at ease, the entire chain of events had left him unsettled, Max let it be for now. He took note of the unfinished room, curious he asked about it-- the place was supposed to amplify the telepathy ability of Charles. However he disappeared before it was finished and so the room never ended up being completed, Cerebro didn't exist. That got Max curious as to if it could be fixed and if Veronica could operate it instead...maybe Max could help if he learned something about the tech. Ruby waved off the idea, a best case scenario would likely kill Veronica and even when it was working properly...it was still dangerous. Eventually it drew the question of where was Layla to his mind, the estate had been quiet even minus two X-Men since the events out by the Pyramid quite some time ago. Ruby had no real answer other than 'she left' and the result of that had put her as the one watching over things at the estate, it still pissed her off a bit. There would be no answers tonight, but Max left the invitation open to be available to help wherever he could in the near future.
