Max had kept to a usual routine of studying and training now that he was back at the estate. He also worked on tracking and logging the increase of situations regarding mutants around the world. There were still so many out there, but he and Ruby alone wouldn't be able to reach them all by themselves. Earlier today he'd been dealing with signing documents regarding his family's business-- putting much his favor regarding his inheritance. After all was said and done, he'd turned to the mansion to relax in the kitchen for a moment.

He wasn't alone for long, Veronica had been making her way through to the estate flipping through a magazine as she'd made her way to the kitchen. Greeting him and pointing out his milk mustache from his current beverage that managed not to make it into his digestive tract system. It'd been some time since she'd spoken with him, remaining cautions since prior events at the Pyramid. Though lately Max had started to physically return to looking like the 'him' she'd known before all of that happened over the Mediterranean.

He'd been distracted for a bit until Veronica drew his attention with her greeting. Both had been keeping up mostly with their own usual routines...and both feeling their own manner of helplessness given the current state of affairs. Eventually though, Veronica brought up that she'd met their newest guest, Alys. Noting the girl wasn't taking the changes very well but hoping she'd adjust. Max seemed a bit more certain about that than Veronica at the moment. He'd learned just enough to note that the girl wanted to help others and would eventually figure out more while she was there with them. After a moment he changed the subject, asking quietly if Veronica would help him with something.

Max had been concerned if that aspect of War was still present in him since the events months ago. He wanted Veronica to take a look inside his head to see what was going on, if anything. It might have been something he'd dismiss as bad memories taking their time to fade, but that incident with Alys when he'd taken her hand had drawn out a vision that had almost pushed him to hurt her. With his permission, Veronica settled in with max to take a peek. She'd arranged her seat to provide an avenue of escape should War still be present and decided to act-- her prior experience at affecting a Horseman during that incident months ago had no effect when she'd tried to reach Kevin.

Things seemed to go well for the most part, until they followed a particularly large cluster of vines and lights within his mindscape. Panic started to set in and something was giving Veronica a bit of a headache-- moments later they were back outside of that mindscape as Max was stumbling backwards from his chair in the kitchen. It seemed that War wasn't done with Max yet...or something at any rate...but now with confirmation of a another presence in his mind at least Veronica could inform the others in case the current status quo changed.
