Max had spent most of the day taking in the responsibilities that his mother wanted him to learn regarding the family business. It'd been a fairly long day by the time he'd managed to get back to the mansion with Italian food from the city in tow...he'd brought enough extra in case anyone else was hungry. He was just settling down at the table to eat when Alys stumbled into the kitchen looking a bit unwell.
She'd ended up sleeping for most of the day before attempting to get up and move around the mansion a bit. Mostly exploring her surroundings more and spending some time in the semi-chaotically organized library that's seen a fair share of use. The need for some crackers and water is what drew her to the kitchen when the scent of Italian food sent her senses reeling just a bit. Hanging onto the doorjamb of the kitchen entrance, she steadied herself from falling over as Max offered her food.
Alys started to politely decline, not feeling that she could really eat much at the moment and took care to brace on hand along the wall while making the short distance from the doorway over to the fridge for a bottle of water. She hadn't paid attention to whether Max was just staring at her or not-- her focus was keeping that sudden dizzy spell away and getting some water into her system. He pried into how she was feeling...whether it was starting to get sick or perhaps her on the verge of another 'light show' as he put it in regards to her power.
She took a moment to drain half of that bottle of water before answering Max. A bit uncertain, she thought it might be her starting to feel just a bit under the weather...the waves of being okay to not feeling okay coupled with the too warm feeling of a slight fever-- she'd figured it was perhaps due to not sleeping well recently. Admittedly she hadn't given it much thought that it was her power that was making her sick, it hadn't happened as soon as she'd experienced before so she figured she'd just caught a bug and it'd pass with some rest.
Max kept a cautious eye on her while inquiring further in regards to her lack of sleep. He'd seen first hand what her 'light' could do and any number of those scenarios was not good for him, nor did he care to test out counters to it if needed but regardless was quietly gathering energy for the defensive. Alys took a moment to collect herself before stating that she mostly felt too warm and spent a few nights tossing and turning for hours. Hesitating for a moment before adding that she'd thought she'd heard the shadows in the room making noise to keep her awake. It'd disrupted a more normal sleeping pattern as she found herself now sleeping most of the day.
He found the explanation strange, but none of it was reassuring to allow Max to drop his guard. Prompting her further he inquired what it was she heard and if it was an actual noise or perhaps something in her head. Alys had to think a moment on it...it was just noise as far as she could tell, but it almost sounded like words that turned to gibberish when focusing in on it...at one point she'd thought a shadow had jumped into bed beside her only to see nothing there. It'd stirred up an old childhood response of hiding from the Boogie Man under the blankets...as if that would protect her. As she thought about it when talking to Max she wondered if perhaps something had caused her current discomfort to manifest since the experiment with Veronica and her memories. She'd felt a little under the weather after that night, but it had initially passed after a couple of days.
Given what she was describing, Max began to assess that something was going on with her powers...something that was causing her this discomfort. If there were someone on the estate grounds actively doing something to mess with Alys, one of the others if not Max would have picked up on it by now. Seeing as it had been going on for a time, it was likely something more individually centered to Alys and her powers. Thinking on it more...Alys wasn't certain but did note that even with feeling a touch ill after the memory experiment with Veronica, she'd hadn't slept well but eventually it had passed. Alys had gone out to experiment with making the little light marble in the garden to distract herself from the images drug up from the past...and that unwell feeling passed by late afternoon.
Max took the chain of events she'd described from that night as confirmation to his prior suspicions. Her power was acting up and making her feel sick...and it was building up within her to the point that she was likely to have a 'light show' incident happen again soon. He stood up from his dinner and motioned for her to follow him, Max knew of a place that she could go to vent out that power and hopefully feel better without causing any harm. She'd been so unfocused but still aware of the conversation, it took a moment before Alys realized he wanted her to follow him outside of the kitchen. He led her to that same elevator she'd been down only once when Ruby showed her that LED map of the world and its growing mutant population. She'd questioned whether doing anything right now when she didn't feel good would make things worse. Max motioned for her to go into the room they'd walked to...the Danger Room.
She hesitated when Max stated that he wasn't going inside with her, but finally took the few steps to clear the threshold from the hall and into the room. It made sense though...if this was her power acting up, she could unintentionally hurt him in some way or another and she didn't want that. Once secure in the room he teleported to another area and spoke to her via way of the intercom to let her know that he was still around and instructed her to try drawing on her power as if she were going to make one of her little light marbles but instead of giving it a shape...to just let the energy flow from herself. Alys didn't like his way of scolding her but regardless was committed to doing something now. He probably wouldn't let her out of the room at this point until she felt better.
Alys hadn't been feeling well or clear headed for a bit now. So she dismissed in answering his scolding counter questions about whether she wanted another incident like at LaGuardia Airport or in Albania to attempt to focus on what he'd asked her to do. The hot flush of her skin and the dull ache in her head didn't make it any easier to concentrate. An exasperated sound of frustration escaped her as she attempted to draw on that energy--nothing...or at least not at first. Suddenly her hands flared to life and began to pour out and setting off alarm and panic within her as she yelled for Max. There was so much...and...it almost felt like it was her life's blood just pouring out...and if it wasn't stopped she might die...
He observed from the room overlooking the area Alys was in as she worked to draw up that energy. Max smiled a bit as it finally manifested even though the sudden outburst caused her to panic. He instructed her to remain calm and to keep focuse on her hands and let that energy flow until she felt better or it was done. Max had no true way to determine if just letting it flow until it was gone would kill her or not, but at the same time it was about as good a guess as anyone unfamiliar with her abilites would have right now. Alys would have glared at him if she could see right now, but the light radiateing and pouring from her hands was too bright to clearly see him. Like before with the tiny light marble, she noticed that when that light hit the floor of the wall...it went nowhere. The light marble had winked out of existance when landing on the concrete section of that back porch...but it would roll around on the grass or parts of the garden until she concentrated on it not being there.
Alys took a moment to try and focus on toning down that constant out-pour of energy from herself, as if trying to turn the sink faucet down to a trickle of water from the tap. She could hear Max laugh a little as he spoke again to encourage her and reassure her that she was in control. She still couldn't see him with the point blank range of light flaring from her hands, but that didn't keep her from sticking her tongue out at him. It was frustrating, but at the same time she knew in the back of her mind that he wasn't trying to be mean...he was trying to help. Focusing more she managed to get the flood of energy to taper down to a trickle, like a slow flow of water from a garden hose before it finally came to a stop.
Her voice was a bit scratchy from yelling earlier but an accomplished "...there..." came from her lips as a flicker of a smile touched their corners before Alys collapsed onto the floor. Seeing this, Max teleported to her and then teleported them both to the medbay and started to get her settled in to help facilitate her recovery. Before leaving her to rest he'd left a post-it note stuck on her forehead written in his clear, eloquent cursive handwriting: 'Told you so.' He'd finish dinner and clear up the kitchen afterwards before turning in for the night.
