RUBY LARKIN & ALYS NIKKOLE
Ruby was picking out the notes to Simple Man, out on the stone patio behind the mansion. Alys was just rounding the corner and noticed Ruby, still feeling a bit odd from her recent incident and having woken up in a medbay of sorts with a 'told you so' note stuck to her forehead. She'd manage to stammer out a polite hello as she came in a bit closer, enjoying the fresh air. One that Ruby returned in kind, not stopping at her practice with the acoustic guitar. She gave a weary smile, telling the woman that she played nice, enjoying the moment outside. She hadn't expected to run into Ruby, and was still miffed at Max...but at least he'd gotten her settled into a bed instead of leaving her on the floor of that room.
She'd wondered why she hadn't seen Ruby around lately, outside of the obvious of being busy. She'd decided to linger outside, not entirely wanting to go back in just yet, but feeling awkward with the conversation as it was going currently. The choice of words caught Ruby for a different reason, she wasn't the type to get along well with others. Ruby stated that her brother was there and very sick...a coma for a couple months now and she spends time taking care of him. The rest of the time she runs training for the few there wanting to learn how to use their powers.
Alys' smile brightened for a moment at the response to the compliment, settling in beside her on the porch and slipping her shoes off to rest bare feet on the ground. Concern crosses her face at the mention of her brother, admitting she's doing a lot and he's lucky to have a sister like herself. She'd kept to herself since everything had started happening, forcing isolation upon herself as the answer to fix her problems. She fought to get the question out, asking if it was difficult for those she was teaching to learn how to use their powers.
Ruby didn't want to stress Alys out any more than the girl had been prior, but it was better to state up front that she grew up in another world and time different from this one. Because of that, she'd been exposed to how mutants train their various abilities and could use that insight to help but everyone was still different. She probably took that info better than expected, but it's not like her time recently was considered 'normal' anymore either. Of course it also brought the question from her lips as to whether or not Ruby had seen anyone else like herself. It would be worth knowing...and from the sounds of it, this other woman might know something that could help her.
Unfortunately Ruby hadn't and as much as she would have liked to lie or fake the knowledge, she opted to be honest with the young girl. She'd known of a couple mutants that might touch on similar powers but nothing quite as what Alys exhibited. It was a shot in the dark but in part it while it didn't give her any real answer it meant there were others that were just as lost in figuring it out as she felt right now. She pressed to ask if even if something similar would by chance help her. She didn't want to continue having Max call her Twinkle...and she didn't associate the name to someone like herself-- not after the pain she'd caused to others.
Ruby reached out to take Alys' hands, the action causing an involuntary pull back...more out of reflex for Alys since it was always contact that had caused others pain. The hesitation would be noticeable but she wasn't trying to hide it as she tried to relax and observe the other woman. Ruby states candidly that she wasn't anyone's first pick for teaching any of this stuff but she could come by at 9 before the rest got up to moving around at 10 to work on some stuff beforehand. Alys nods and doesn't pull away, still upset with his note and manners that Ruby was already looking to be a better teacher. She confirmed that interest and asked where to meet up with the woman. Appreciating at not having to deal with anyone else at first...taking this approach slow.
Alys was told to meet in the lobby by the elevator and to wear something more comfortable and to bring some water. She'd smile and give a nod while standing as Ruby released her wrists. A little disappointed that the contact with another person had ended, she'd kept well isolated that it was one of those realizations that comes to you after you notice something is lacking. At least she had a direction now. Maybe once she could better understand what her power did she could help others like on that LED map. Ruby would remain behind for a bit longer before returning inside to check on Mal. There had been some change weeks ago, showing some response until going dormant once more.
LAYLA HARPER & ETHAN RAND
Ethan kept his eyes on Layla as he studied her while moving through the lab. Moving from one cabinet to another and pausing only at some while sidestepping others as he picked out what was likely needed. He'd dropped the contents into random pockets while continuing to shop his way through the drugs. Asking her at one point if she could see beyond tonight. Layla stated she could, if she left she'd go forward as she had been...but kept to herself the other choice of not knowing exactly what would happened other than a major and life altering event.
Perhaps that was in part what he expected as an answer from her in the first place. He was preparing something and appologized that it couldn't be rolled up in paper, hoping she wasn't adverse to needles. Layla eventually answered that it was no more than anyone else but not without a moment of silence. It was more a pause, not hesitation in regards to his question. More an acknowledgment of the choice she'd made when coming to that lab with Rand in the first place. Grief for the life she'd lived and acceptance of the life she now chose. Rand gestured towards the gurney beside them, letting her get settled while making sure the air was out of the suringe before injecting the first concoction into her veins.
Layla had a brief thought of Mal as she lay there before losing conciousness. It was the sensation of being high, the simple rush of good marijuana when one's tolerance was low. At first a little dizzy then a feeling of weightless that would grow quickly as if sinking into the gurney...though it to the floor...and into the earth and darkness. The span of time for anything Layla could recall was more of a lightning flash in her mind of different sets of images, sounds and memories-- going too fast and bound up too tightly to understand. She'd eventually wake in something like a spa. The warm, soft light around from the sunrise at the window beside the bed. She wasn't aware of exactly how much time had passed but some time had passed because the prior injury on her leg was now completely healed.
It took a moment for her mind to catch up on the last thing she recalled before waking up in that room. She took to her feet quickly and as the door opened and a girl by the name of Adalia entered. She asked how long she'd been there as she named her. Seeing as there was no name-tag on her clothing, it took the girl by surprise for bit but she confirmed that she'd been there for the past three days. She'd last been in Nepal but now she was in Switzerland, at least for the past three days. She nods and thanks the girl, still trying to work out exactly how much actual time had passed since she'd last spoken with Rand. The girl set a tray down beside the bed, revealing an impressive breakfast and a note welcoming her to the new world. Layla knew she'd have the ability and means to move about as she liked, everything would be set in place be it transportation, a passport or otherwise. First, she'd start with breakfast and then take it from there.
