The day was relatively pleasant on the estate grounds. Enough that it’d prompted Max to get out for a bit. He’d already done a bit of exercise outside of morning training, getting in a swim…but was now working on practicing a bit with juggling tennis balls in the garden. In part to practice for his own sake, but in particular within that area as Alys tends to frequent that spot when not hidden in her room. He felt bad from the night before…and that he owed her an apology. He’d positioned himself within the garden so as not to be easily spotted and avoided but not entirely hidden from anyone naturally taking a stroll through the area.

Sure enough, Alys was in the garden today…it’d become a place of calm and sanctuary outside of the four walls of her room. For the most part she never ran into anyone in the times she’d walked along the garden paths, and in a way had claimed it as her space of peace. So of course it was a surprise when she rounded one hedge to find Max, practicing with juggling tennis balls via his power that gave her pause for a long moment. She had expected to be alone, but that was no longer the case…she hesitated for a moment before a polite ‘hello’ and smile. He paused in his practice to turn and face Alys, stating he’d hoped to find her so that he could apologize for last night.

Max admits he’s not good with social interactions, he’d never had much in the past and came off as an awkward asshole from time to time. Ruby had been on the receiving end of such a moment once. She stood a long moment before acknowledging the apology and verbally accepting it…she knew he hadn’t meant to be mean, just the conversation had pushed her last night. The simple acceptance seemed to be enough for him, there was no deception in Alys’ words and helped him feel he’d addressed the matter properly. He turned back to his practice juggling via way of his abilities, asking casually if how her sessions with Ruby had been going and progress in general.

Alys shook her head to answer she hadn’t learned anything new just yet, but added that she was learning a bit and getting better. She was a little less scared of that ‘light’ she could manifest and the less afraid she was of it…the better she could work at understanding and using it better. Seeing as she’d have to live with this ability for the rest of her life now. Another of the tennis balls ended up crushed as he tried to juggle and maintain his conversation with Alys. He was pleased to hear that the work with Ruby was going well. He’d commented that his teleportation ability was easier to use, but he tended to apply it in unique ways according to Ruby. His telekinesis was pretty powerful in its own right but his talent was far stronger in how he applied teleportation.

She wondered how Max had figured it out and asked as much…considering that maybe his manner of discovery could help her as well. Alys’ work with Ruby one-on-one had more been what was known to be similar to what was previously witnessed and then working through some basic, logical applications of he ability. It was like having a spotter of sorts that she could trust. Max admits that it had happened more on accident when he’d gotten upset…objects around him were affected and after seeing it in action, he’d tried to replicate it and improve his use with the ability knowingly. She contemplated that emotions were probably what helped when using the ability and wondered if that was a partial key. Max didn’t know for certain, but for him it seemed to have helped…he lists off a few examples from other’s he’d met and observed in the reaction. The best Alys could piece together was that with these abilities they possessed…it was like learning to flex and use muscles. Though perhaps more accurately in their case, harmonizing their mind and feeling to their abilities.

He thought it was a fair enough assessment. Using his power as he packs up the undamaged tennis balls and tosses the crushed ones away…or more like teleporting it to the trash. Max excuses himself to go and spend time with his mother. Alys gives a small smile, telling him he’s lucky…only to be reminded that her own parents were as far away as she herself made them. She knew the choice she’d made at the time to decline contact…and so far, even though it hurt, hadn’t felt it was right to change that decision. Max vanished only a moment later leaving Alys to herself and the garden.
