Xavier's sudden arrival to the estate had left a mixed impression of both surprise and frustration. Layla had continued to watch over Mal closely after the incident. Xavier was not like they'd expected...and he was pretty pissed off while pushing his way past them to approach Mal. Her tone reflected a bit of that frustration and anger left in the wake of Xavier's prior assault on the group of the mansion as she talked to him while working his arms through simple, passive exercises of movement. She continued with mixed anger and grief, with the threat of 24/7 Christmas music if he didn't wake up soon...Mal wasn't about to get out of skipping the holidays.
Max also wasn't in the best of spirits as well, perhaps a bit compounded by recent events and a very short call to his mother, Steena, to send her birthday greetings. He'd eventually teleport around and find Ruby by the holding cell they'd secured Charles Xavier in once he'd fallen unconscious. He was still a bit unsettled from the images the unwelcome guest had provided during the abrupt introduction at the front door. He asked Ruby about Essex...if he looked anything like what he'd seen in that mental vision. Ruby confirmed his description and the fact that he had met Essex, even if he didn't have access to those memories. Max disliked that his mind had been violated again...he'd already been dealing with War that Apocalypse had put in his head and this other image of Essex didn't settle well with him. Ruby stated that he probably wasn't going to get a say in what stayed or goes in his head after all that'd happened...and it probably wasn't a good idea to have Xavier poking around his skull either. Max may have the best outcome given the current circumstances. Xavier and Essex were considered top tier in their skills...and with the level of what Essex had done to convince more than just Steena and Max that they'd had lived full lives-- trying to unravel more in his mind could potentially leave Max worse off than his current frustration. Without more to add to the subject, Max left to contemplate his own thoughts as Ruby retained her watch over Xavier.
Mal watched as tiny hands kept pulling his arm, Ruby wanted to make use of the ice skates she'd gotten for Christmas. Even while their mom had stated she'd take them, his sister wanted him to go with her. As he watched from a distance the familiar affection between his mother and father in the boathouse watching them, Ruby ecstatic at gradually skating on the ice-- a voice from behind broke into his thoughts. Xavier was asking Mal what he'd done. Confusion as he tried to remember as the memory started slipping away...he'd gotten lost...months ago...
